QUALITY

CATS dance_edited-1

We offer quality training by a small staff, each with over 20 years professional performing and teaching experience. You will not be taught by amateurs, teenagers or unqualified staff here. Students of all ages from our littlest to our adults will be trained by highly qualified dance instructors who have trained hundreds of dancers and performers and know the business well. Our staff has performed and worked together for over twenty years and produced many students who have gone on to work for professional dance companies, Broadway shows, TV and film.

Producing students who have vast knowledge and experience as well as an appreciation for all art forms is important to us. We produce students who love to dance, respect the art and perform in real professional themed productions and showcases. We are not a factory studio, we do not do typical long recitals. Instead, our shows are more like those you would pay to go see when a professional touring show comes through Phoenix, special, themed, purposeful and entertaining. When our students step up on stage or perform in studio they are confident, prepared and able to perform their best. Our students stay with us for years and grow up together in a wholesome family environment. We do not compete. We teach production, which in turn teaches each child they are significant and important to the overall, whole product. Dance is an art form. We like to support one another, teach valuable life skills as well as classical technique.

Respect for the art form, the teacher, your peers and yourself are all part of our curriculum.
We enforce a strict dress code and only use family friendly music. Costumes are always age appropriate as well as the shows we produce.

Children who are loved, respected and held accountable, grow into loving, respecting and dependable adults. Whether or not your child grows up to be a dancer, actor or artist the lessons and discipline learned in the arts is invaluable to every aspect of a successful life. Commitment to your studio and to your peers as well as working to achieve goals are important and valuable skills that we expect from each other and our students.

If you are ready to work hard and have more fun than you ever expected in our high quality professional productions, then get ready to dance!

COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE

DC Dance

Our commitment to excellence comes from the classical technique based training we offer. Here you will learn by building a knowledge base and foundation of classical techniques in jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical, contemporary, theatre and visual arts. Students will properly warm up, stretch, strengthen, tone and condition their bodies in all dance classes. In addition, progressions and center work will be done in all classes. Original choreography and material will be learned and worked on for performance or showcase purposes.

DC Dance's Performing and Fine Arts curriculum was developed in 1989 by Trisha and Glenda Folk. The program’s interdisciplinary curriculums have been presented at the National Arts Education Association conventions in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles to educators throughout the country. It is a nationally recognized program designed to introduce and unite art forms to children, teens and adults in all stages of development and all skill levels. It encompasses traditional as well as modern techniques and currently is composed of four divisions: Dance,Theatre, Art and Music.

At DC Dance our core instruction is Dance. With the addition of these related interdisciplinary curriculums: Theatre Arts, Visual Art and Music students are able to enhance their performing skills and broaden their appreciation for the arts. Through their studies, students gain an understanding and admiration for these programs and their relation towards each other as their own art forms, their history, cultural influences and place in today’s society.

Using an interdisciplinary program of study allows the spectrum of production for a performance to be embraced and emphasized. Students are trained and encouraged to perform throughout the year. Learning to sing, dance, act, create art and perform with your peers builds confidence and a positive self image.

Educational research has shown that performing and fine arts programs are critical to the development of well adjusted children who become successful adults. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, National Endowment for the Arts, and Americans for the Arts, these programs strengthen student problem-solving and critical thinking skills, adding to overall academic achievement and school success. They help students develop a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance, and goal-setting skills needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond. Team work, discipline and the development of a positive work ethic are all derived from arts education.

Classes are taught in a wholesome family environment with a commitment to quality technique based instruction by professionals in the arts, only. We hope you take advantage of these wonderful programs of studies and enjoy a lifetime in the arts.

DC DANCE CORE PROGRAM

CLASS PLACEMENT PHILOSOPHY

DC Dance is dedicated to providing quality technique based dance training. Placement in class is based on level of technique not age. We offer leveled classes I-IV beginning through advanced and placement is at the discretion of the Artistic Director or class instructor.

Our professional faculty is extremely diligent in choosing the correct class level for each student. It is very important to remember that all students are individuals with very different talents, skills, and ability levels and they will not all progress at the same rate. Two children of the same age and with the same number of years of dance training may have extremely different capabilities.

The teacher’s judgment and placement should always be respected first and foremost since each individual student is evaluated by their trained eyes. Please trust that your child will be placed in a developmentally appropriate class that will allow for growth in both technique and self confidence. Your child's best interest is always takes precedence in our decisions.

Class schedules may have age ranges and levels marked but are to be used only as a suggested guide for placement. Please note that upon the first week or two of taking the class, the student's instructor may recommend a more appropriate level class for optimal success for that student.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

The number of times a student studies per week, and her/his attendance may also have an important influence on how quickly she or he progresses.
